With the aim of improving the quality of sexual health care in Vietnam and fostering connections between the scientific communities both domestic and international, the Hanoi Medical University (HMU), Vietnam National University, Hanoi (VNU), in collaboration with the Vietnam Society of Sexual Medicine and Andrology and Fertility Hospital of Hanoi (AF HANOI), successfully organized the “International Scientific Conference on New Trends in Sexual Health VNU 2024” on September 13–14, 2024.

Andrology and Fertility Hospital of Hanoi was honored to be the main sponsor and a key partner in this event, contributing to its success and spreading the latest advancements in sexual medicine research both in Vietnam, across the region, and worldwide.

The conference featured eight international speakers, leading global experts in gender-affirming surgery and therapy. This was a valuable opportunity not only for health professionals but also for scientists and policymakers in related fields to gain a comprehensive and accurate perspective on this emerging and essential branch of science.

A total of nine reports were presented during the conference:

• Greg Mak, President of ASIAPATH, presented on “An Overview of LGBT and Transgender Needs in Southeast Asia and Worldwide.”
• Associate Professor Preecha Tiewtranon, former President of ASIAPATH, reported on “The Development of Gender Affirmation Surgery (GAS) in Thailand.”
• Nachale Boonyapisomparn, founder of Astraea and Vice President of ThaiPATH, discussed “Promoting Universal Health Coverage for Gender-Affirming Care.”
• Associate Professor Dr. Pham Xuan Da, Director of the Advanced Medicine Center, University of Medicine and Pharmacy, Vietnam National University, Hanoi, presented on “The Situation of LGBT, Transgender Needs, and Legal Aspects in Vietnam.”
• Associate Professor Dr. Krasean Panyakhamlerd from Chulalongkorn University, Bangkok, Thailand, delivered a report on “Sexual Health Clinics: How to Establish and Achieve High Recognition and Awards.”
• Associate Professor Dr. Chansuda Bongsebandhu-Phubhakdi from the Faculty of Medicine, Chulalongkorn University, Bangkok, Thailand, presented on “Comprehensive Care for Transgender Youth.”
• Jemma Samitpol from the HIV Research and Innovation Institute reported on “Community Involvement in Pioneering Asia’s First Transgender Clinic: Lessons from the Tangerine Clinic in Thailand.”
• Ammarin Suwan from Chulalongkorn University presented on “Gender-Affirming Hormone Therapy for Transgender Individuals.”
• Associate Professor Dr. Poonpissamai Suwajo, Chair of ThaiPATH and faculty member at Chulalongkorn University, presented on “Techniques in Gender-Affirming Surgery (GAS) and Sex Reassignment Surgery (SRS).”

The conference also dedicated significant time to discussion sessions and Q&A, creating an interactive platform for knowledge exchange and experience sharing between participants and international doctors and experts.

By providing specialized information and connecting the international medical community, the conference helped raise public awareness about the importance of scientific and effective sexual health care. Moreover, it served as an opportunity for Andrology and Fertility Hospital of Hanoi to engage in international collaboration, fostering the development of the Hanoi Center for Sexual Medicine, thus establishing a solid foundation for sexual health care both in Vietnam and globally.
