Peyronie’s disease is a disorder that causes local areas of hardened scar tissue in outer layer of cavernous tissue, under the skin of penis, called plaques. These plaques make the penis less flexible. As a result, men with Peyronie’s disease have a noticeable curve in their penis, he will see clearly when his penis at erection condition. This condition may shorten the penis as well.

Sexual intercourse can be difficult for men with Peyronie’s disease, especially if their curve is severe (commonly over 45 0 in angle). Some case men may also experience pain and have erectile dysfunction.

Experts aren’t sure what, exactly, causes Peyronie’s disease. It is believed to be a wound healing disorder. Men may undergo minor injuries when erect penis while masturbate, through vigorous sex, and men is not even aware that he has done so. However, the injury does not heal as it should. The minor scar accelerate day by day forming thicken scar and the scar does not break down as it typically would.

The scar tissue is made of collagen, a type of protein. Normally, as a wound heals, collagen breaks down and the scar becomes smaller, a process called “remodeling.” In Peyronie’s disease, the scars do not remodel properly.

It’s also possible that some cases of Peyronie’s disease are inherited.

Peyronie’s disease occurs in two stages. The first is the “active” phase, which occurs during the first twelve to twenty-four months. During this phase, the disease progresses and the penis continues to bend.

Eventually, Peyronie’s disease stabilizes. This is called the “chronic” phase. At this time, pain usually subsides and the curve usually doesn’t worsen.

Treatment

Men with mild and average penile curvature doesn’t require treatment, men with severe penile curvature need treat for normal sex activities and plastic purpose. In some special cases, the condition goes away on its own.

Surgery is a common choice for patient with peyronies disease.

Nonsurgical treatments are also available by using injectable medicine call Xiaflex.
